چکیده

Mice were immunized twice intranasally with a formalin-inactivated whole Sendai virus (SV) vaccine at a dose of 2.8 μg in combination with either cholera toxin (CT) or whole formalin-inactivated Bordetella pertussis (Bp). The mice induced not only serum antibodies, but mucosal IgA and serum IgG responses as well. All mice immunized subcutaneously with SV alone induced high serum IgG antibodies and haemagglutination inhibition antibody titres. In contrast, the animals immunized intranasally with SV alone had significantly lower responses to SV than the other ones.

Development of oligomannose-coated liposome-based nasal vaccine against human parainfluenza virus type 3

Human parainfluenza viruses (HPIVs) are the etiologic agents of lower respiratory infections and pneumonia in infants, young children and immunocompromised hosts. The overarching goal for the prevention of HPIV infection is the development of an effective vaccine against HPIVs. In the present study, we investigated the effectiveness of oligomannose-coated liposomes (OMLs) as an antigen-delivery...

Calcium phosphate nanoparticles induce mucosal immunity and protection against herpes simplex virus type 2.

Previously we reported that calcium phosphate nanoparticles (CAP) represented a superior alternative to alum adjuvants in mice immunized with viral protein. Additionally, we showed that CAP was safe and elicited no detectable immunoglobulin E (IgE) response. In this study, we demonstrated that following mucosal delivery of herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) antigen with CAP, CAP adjuvant enhan...

Mucosal immunization with helicobacter, CpG DNA, and cholera toxin is protective.

The mucosal delivery of antigens requires an effective adjuvant to induce mucosal immunity. Current mucosal adjuvants include cholera toxin (CT) and Escherichia coli heat-labile toxin. Unmethylated CpG immunostimulatory oligodeoxynucleotides (ODNs) have been proposed as novel mucosal adjuvants. In this study, mice were immunized with sonicated Helicobacter felis with CT and/or CpG ODN adjuvants...

Polymyxins as Novel and Safe Mucosal Adjuvants to Induce Humoral Immune Responses in Mice

There is currently an urgent need to develop safe and effective adjuvants for enhancing vaccine-induced antigen-specific immune responses. We demonstrate here that intranasal immunization with clinically used polypeptide antibiotics, polymyxin B (PMB) and colistin (CL), along with ovalbumin (OVA), increases OVA-specific humoral immune responses in a dose-dependently manner at both mucosal and s...

Protective Immunity in Mice Following Immunization with the Cochleate-Based Subunit Influenza Vaccines

High morbidity and mortality of influenza virus infection makes it an important disease world-wide. Mouse is a very well-studied animal model for this disease with similar manifestation to human disease. It would be desirable to induce mucosal as well as circulating immune responses to obtain protection from infection and to decrease the spread of the virus. Cell mediated immunity (proliferativ...
